IOLTA Fellow
Alisa L. Petersen is the 2020-2021 IOLTA Fellow with MidPenn Legal Services in Carlisle, PA. Ms. Petersen earned a B.A. in Political Science/Pre-Law with a minor in Professional Writing from Bloomsburg University in 2017, graduating summa cum laude. In May 2020, Ms. Petersen earned her J.D. from Penn State Dickinson Law, graduating with a Certificate in Litigation & Dispute Resolution and a Concentration in Criminal Litigation. After graduation, Ms. Petersen began studying for the Pennsylvania Bar Exam, which was re-scheduled for October 2020, due to COVID-19 concerns.

Prior to beginning law school, Ms. Petersen was a legal assistant for the Law Offices of Kreisher & Gregorowicz in Bloomsburg, PA, where she worked primarily on estate planning cases. During law school, Ms. Petersen worked as a Judicial Intern for PA Superior Court Judge Mary Jane Bowes, assisting her in drafting memorandum decisions and writing a legal research memorandum for review by the PA Appellate Court Procedural Rules Committee. Ms. Petersen spent the second half of her law school career working as a Certified Legal Intern for MidPenn Legal Services. In this role, she interviewed clients seeking Final Protection from Abuse Orders and represented those clients in court with attorney supervision, including negotiating settlements and conducting hearings.

Throughout her time at Dickinson Law, Ms. Petersen dedicated herself to public interest work. Beyond serving as V.P. of Service for Dickinson Law’s Public Interest Law Fund from 2019-2020, she also volunteered at the Bethesda Mission Legal Intake Clinic and Expungement Clinic, the Driver’s License Restoration Clinic, Project SHARE, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Clinic, and Wills for Heroes. As a result of her dedication to public interest work and her focus on litigation, Ms. Petersen received the Miller Center Advocate of the Year Award, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Award, and was inducted into the Order of Barristers upon her graduation in May 2020.

As the IOLTA Fellow for MidPenn Legal Services, Ms. Petersen will focus on Protection from Abuse, child custody, landlord/tenant, unemployment compensation, and estate planning cases.
