Arlene Marshall-Hockensmith, Esquire, is the Administrative Officer of the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, Inc. (PLAN, Inc.) where she oversees the Martin Luther King, Jr. Internship and Fellowship Programs, conducts regular contract compliance monitoring of PLAN programs, disseminates, reviews, and approves PA-IOLTA and Department of Human Services funding subagreements for PLAN programs, assists in the development of reports to funders, and develops and conducts an annual advocacy skills training for new-to-practice PLAN program attorneys and paralegals. Arlene serves as a member of the Veteran’s Initiative Advisory Board at Widener Law Commonwealth. She served on the Dauphin County Bar Association Board of Directors. She is also Co-Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Legal Services to the Public Committee, and the Editor-in-Chief of the Minority Bar Committee’s Houston’s Legacy Newsletter. Prior to joining PLAN, Inc., Arlene worked as a Staff Attorney, Economic Justice and Empowerment Project Manager, and Training and Technical Assistance Manager for over four years at the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Arlene also worked for four years at MidPenn Legal Services where she handled family, consumer, housing, and public benefits cases. Arlene has served as a presenter at both national and statewide conferences and has worked with the Dauphin County Bar Association and Pennsylvania Bar Institute to develop informational videos to assist pro se litigants. Arlene received her J.D. from Widener Commonwealth Law School in 2006, and her B.A. from the Pennsylvania State University in 1998.
