Christine Speidel directs the Federal Tax Clinic at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. In the Clinic, she supervises law students as they represent individuals in a wide variety of IRS controversy and collection matters. Her research interests lie in the intersection of poverty law with tax law and tax procedure. Professor Speidel is an editor of the practice manual Effectively Representing Your Client Before the IRS and a contributor to the blog Procedurally Taxing.
Prior to her appointment at Villanova, Professor Speidel practiced law for over a decade at Vermont Legal Aid. She directed the Vermont Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic and was a staff attorney for Vermont Legal Aid's Office of the Health Care Advocate as well as the Poverty Law Project. She is active in the American Bar Association Section of Taxation, where she is Assistant Secretary and a past chair of the Pro Bono and Tax Clinics Committee. Professor Speidel earned her B.A. from Pomona College and her J. D. from Harvard Law School.
